I QUIT!

After over  three decades in the corporate world, I did it, I up and quit my stressful office job and moved out of the city to pursue a new career in health and wellness. Life is too short! I want to help others and not have regrets or what-if’s.

I went through a transformation in the past few years that opened my eyes to the importance of how we treat our bodies, minds and souls and the long lasting affects it can have. With the support from others, I dropped 50lbs and gained so much in the end. I will not deny, it was a serious challenge and required dedication and determination, but I proved to myself it was possible.

Continuously learning and sharing my findings with anyone willing to listen, it is my hope that I am able to inspire and help others. There are so many options, opinions and research available, my philosophy is to be open-minded and compassionate.

I stay busy with multiple part-time jobs, all of which are very physical. From teaching yoga, fitness classes, pole walking and working at our local hardware store, I enjoy the variety and staying active.

I am proud to be married for 38 years to a really great guy and have two beautiful grown children. Both my son and my daughter are strong believers in taking care of their own health with regular  fitness and mindfulness.  I hope that I had some influence.

We are all aware that staying active is good for us. Incorporating movement and motion in daily activities is so very important for our health and well-being, both inside and out, especially as we get older. I am excited to focus on working in the Kawarthas, in particular with seniors.

All my life I've had connections with sports, from playing hockey and baseball as a kid, then in my early thirties I discovered dragon boat and outrigger canoe and loved that for many years. At the same time I was running long distance, completing a number of 10k runs,  six half marathons and Around The Bay 30k.  I guess I just can't sit still.

When I found yoga over 15 years ago, right from the beginning I felt a deep connection and knew one day I would love to teach and share the warmth behind the practice.  When I talk to people about yoga, they sometimes say they can't do it because they are not flexible.  It is a big myth that you need to be flexible to do yoga.

“Yoga” means “union”, not only with our body, but specifically our mind and soul. Being present without judgement.  With my 200 hour teaching training, I am currently focusing on, but not limited to, both chair and wheelchair yoga.  In any type of yoga practice, mindfulness and breathwork are key.

In addition, I have my preliminary personal training certification from Action Personal Training, which compliments the other areas of fitness I am  currently focusing on.

Along my journey I have experimented with many healthy recipes, and yes, some were failures, but that's ok, we learn from our mistakes. I continue to try new ideas often.  My family and friends are great sports, and honest, when it comes to taste testing. My mother had her own catering company, so I suppose my love for cooking is  from her, but times have changed when it comes to choices of ingredients. Coincidentally, my mother also left her corporate job to start a second career later in life.

Food is energy but quality and choice are very important.  I do not follow just one diet, such as keto, paleo, vegan, macros, gluten-free, intermittent fasting, etc.  Although they all fascinate me with such a range of results and I don't believe in the word 'diet'.

Every body is different. I do believe that certain foods are just straight up not good for us, physically and mentally.  There are many food sensitivities and allergies that also need to be considered.  Unfortunately, that may be related to soil, environment and region it's grown, but that's for another discussion.

I found that taking one day a week to do shopping and meal prep is essential to success.  This, combined with a focused mindset and positive outlook are also what drives success.
